Social Stories

Carol Gray Social Stories are a widely recognised and evidence-informed approach used to help children understand routines, expectations, social situations and new experiences in a calm and structured way. They are particularly effective at reducing anxiety, increasing predictability and helping children build confidence and resilience. While Social Stories can benefit all children, they are especially supportive for autistic children because they use clear, concrete language and provide reassurance about what to expect.

In school, Social Stories are used and most effective when they are personalised to individual children and used alongside supportive conversations, visual supports, modelling and positive encouragement. The attached story is intended as a general support resource for families to use if helpful before big events.
